What are the colors in a rainbow?Exclus96 - 8 Answers
I learned ROY G BIV, too.
These colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
Sometimes they fade and you think you cannot see them all, but they are there. When you see a truly brilliant rainbow, it's almost beyond belief that anything could be so beautiful!
There's a song that little children sometimes learn:
Red and yellow
Green and blue
All the colors that I know
And they're in the rainbow!
The song leaves out indigo and uses the word purple instead of violet, but for a child, "purple" would probably include both indigo and violet.
There are other bands -- infrared before the color red and ultraviolet beyond violet -- but our eyes cannot see these bands. We can measure them with scientific instruments, however.
The best way to remember the colors of the rainbow are as follows, which relates to English History:
Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain
A traditional rainbow has (in order): red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. I've noticed sometimes pink is included towards the top of the rainbow when an artist paints a rainbow, but usually, it includes the six I mentioned above....
The acronym ROY G BIV does indeed work well for remembering the colors in a rainbow in their proper order.

O - orange
Y - yellow
G - green
