How was the summer this year?Hockey59 - 10 Answers
This summer in Connecticut has been very wet! We had record snowfall in January and a wet spring. July was nice, hot like usual, but as soon as we got into August the flood gates were opened, figurative and literally! One day in August we saw 7 inches of rain in one day, 3 of those inches in one hour! Then of course we were hit by Hurricane Irene which gave us more rain, some wind, and a lot of coastal flooding. Then lee came up behind it and gave us more rain. I think most of this area of southern New England is already around 20 inches over the annual average. Many places in New England and the Mid - Atlantic States had their wettest months on record. It?s actually raining right now as I'm typing this. The wet summer ruined the fall foliage around here, I didn't really notice it until i saw photos i took last year around this time and there is a huge difference. It looks like southern New England is going to have a rough start to winter as well. The last year has been full of extremes....
Here in the mountains of North Carolina, we had a spectacular summer with normal temperatures and moderate rainfall. Just 5 hours from here in Kentucky, (where Kbky11 lives), they had heavy rain almost every day, (much more than the average). I have family that lives in Texas and they have had a record breaking drought the entire year. So I certainly cannot complain about the beautiful summer we had in this region.
Unfortunately the lovely weather is over and a cold front has moved in. The daytime temperatures are still fairly warm, (60's), but the nighttime temperatures will be in the 30's this week. I guess that is to be expected in mid-October. I do not like the winter/cold temperatures, (and struggle with seasonal affective disorder), and will be longing for the beautiful days of summer that have passed. Only one thing could be worse than cold and that would be snow. You have my sympathies.
In the UK it has been one of the best summers for many years. This summer was dry (for a change), sunny, hot at times and nice and warm during the times when it wasn't hot. Overall it was very pleasant.
In the UK we have been fortunate enough to have an 'Indian summer' this year and the weather conditions remained vey good right through to early October, which is almost unheard of. In fact, there have been a few days in October where I have been driving to and from work with the roof of my convertible down it has been that good.
Over the last few days the weather has taken a turn for the worse. It is now grey, dull, wet and the temperatures have plummeted. We are now experiencing the 'proper' weather for the time of year, so I can't really complain.
I live in Washington State. It rained a lot. It was a pretty cold summer, unlike the rest of the United States. I was grateful for that.
Other than the weather, I guess my summer was good. I started a lot of new things. I got my first job at a retail store. I enjoy working there but wish I could get a little bit more hours. I also applied for college. It is so expensive. A third thing that I did this summer was get my first car. It is a 93 Taurus SHO. I might get rid of it and buy a small truck.
Up in the North of England we have had a relatively dry summer, but I would not have said it was anything spectacular. My vegetables certainly were not over the moon with the weather.
I am also noticing the cold and hearing doom and gloom of impending snow. That scares me when my husband has to try and get to work down uncleared country lanes in snow.
I also dread the heating bill from trying to keep small children warm all winter. But hey ho, we all know it comes around every year.
Here in Ireland, we have had lower than normal rainfall with the result that the level in reservoirs are at an all time low.
It has been the coldest and dullest summer for 25 years in some places and the mean air temperature for the three months of summer has been the lowest since 1962 at Shannon airport.
The highest temperatures were at the start of June, 26 C or 79 F.
I'm in Michigan, and it's been a decent summer. We have had probably more than
normal amounts of rain, but it has kept the grass super green and lush!
We had some real hot weeks and some just perfect weeks. It has been raining here
a lot the last few days, and I'm not liking the darker shorter days. It seems to me that
the summer just FLEW by!
I live in Vegas, and the summer was actually pretty mild this year. We only had a few weeks of temperatures above 100 degrees, which really isn't bad for around here. I still would prefer to live in a place that was more green and nicer, but this year wasn't as bad as most years....
The summer over here in California has actually been relatively cool. Just in the past month has it been starting to heat up. Now the weather has been everywhere with rain one week and heat the next....
Here in Australia summer was such a looooooong time ago and to be honest, we had an awful summer with the floods and cyclones etc.
Summer starts on the 1st December and I can't wait!
