Are you located in the path of the expected New Year's blizzard in the eastern part of the United States? If so, where do you live and what is the forecast?

Heavy snowfall is expected to affect many locations in the east. Where do you live, (the general area), and what is the forecast for your region? Have you prepared for possible power outages and hazardous conditions?

Yes--it's been snowing since mid-morning here in the hills of Connecticut. Schools in most districts did not open today, anticipating what was to come; the ones that did were closed by noon. The snow has not been heavy, but it is consistent. The wind is howling, so it appears to be a blizzard when the snow is blowing all over the place. It has blown up against my patio doors, and if I opened any of those doors, the snow would fall inside the house!

The worst part of storms like this is the cold, but I am not planning on going for a walk anytime soon. Just going outside to fill the bird and deer feeders after lunch (yes--I feed deer that pass through the yard!), took over an hour today, and I froze carrying the bags to the far end of the yard where the deer come through the woods. But I couldn't put the deer feed in the wheelbarrow as I usually do, because it wouldn't push through the icy snow--these are fifty pound bags. I emptied out more than half of the bags into other containers in the garage, so that I could carry/drag lighter bags through the snow, but it took eight trips back and forth.

At 6 p.m., our weather station reported 16 degrees above zero, with the "real feel" at -11. Tonight, it is supposed to drop to 5 above, with the "real feel" at -24! This station is not calling it the "wind chill factor" lately, but that's what it means. And for sure, that's what it feels like.

We've had worse, and to answer your question regarding power outages, that's the big fear. We've experienced plenty of those, too, especially with wind and ice storms, and I think the longest was two winters ago. For us, it was for five days; some towns went as long as ten days! After about twenty minutes, my house is uninhabitable-it gets so cold in here, it hurts! My house is all electric--heat, well-water, septic--nothing works if we don't have power. We can't even get water out of the faucet, or flush a toilet. We keep bottled water, dry foods, and the like, but no one wants to stay here when there isn't any power. After one day in the house during that last outage, we couldn't stand it. We went to a hotel, then to my sister's house in another town, because she had power. The following week, we ordered a large capacity generator, but it still can't handle many of the functions we need because of the electric heat. For example, we can have heat, but not hot water, so that amounts to taking a cold shower in a warm house! I can't win! I have resigned myself to the fact that we are going to a hotel if the next outage lasts more than a day.

I know I sound like I'm grumbling, but i really love the snow, and as long as I know I can get warm, I have never minded being cold. My Christmas tree is still up, and my candles are in the windows, and I love to look at the lights inside, and the snow outside. If the drifts and winds aren't bad, I have walked my dogs. If it's bad out, we've shoveled trails in the back yard so that they can walk and run--it looks like a maze out there! It's all good, really! We are accustomed to it, and I will take our four seasons any day over oppressive heat. When my friends head for FL in the winter, we go farther north to Loon Mountain in New Hampshire, where it is just beautiful!

Happy New Year, Maidti83 I hope 2014 brings you and your family good health, much joy, and great peace.

I live in Connecticut and we are waiting for the snow as I write this. Yesterday ( Wednesday) they said it would start snowing at 3:00 a.m. Thursday morning and not be over until noon on Friday. It did start snowing and snowed a bit on Thursday morning but we only got about 1/4 an inch of snow. The heaviest snow is supposed to be coming tonight from 8:00 p.m. till tomorrow at noon and we are expecting 5 to 10 inches.

I love snow so I don't mind, but my husband doesn't like it. Fortunately over the weekend he lined up a person to plow our driveway for the rest of the winter so we are set for this snowfall. We also have gone to the store and got the necessary milk and bread that we may need if the power goes out. We already have cereal, peanut butter, etc.

My husband is really wanting to move South because he's getting older and doesn't like the cold and snow. We are going to put our house on the market in April. This is the third snowstorm we have had this season, and that's a lot. I think it's God's way of giving me enough snow to remember the white stuff by since it will probably be my last Winter up North.

Yes I live in the southern region. the 3-6 inch region, and we have our electric heaters out and extra blankets and we have a generator in the garage with a full tank of gas, and another tank of gas extra. We will drip the faucets tonight just before we go to bed, so the pipes do not freeze. We have plenty of candles and flashlights with batteries and I have an oil lantern.

I live in south Florida, and it's supposed to be cold tomorrow...go down to 60! Ha ha! I'm from New York, and certainly don't miss the snow storms. All my relatives are up north, and I hope it won't be to bad, and hopefully the power will stay on. Thanks for the question!

I'm located in Ohio as well, and we got snowed on all morning and all day. The forecast as it stands now is extremely cold with a low of 3F and 20-30 mph winds. What a terrible day to have to go back to work! I hate winter and it has unfortunately just begun.

I'm sitting here watching it snow like stink out my office window. I'm really not in the mood for this but since I'm powerless to do anything about it I might as well stop sniveling about it!

I live in the Detroit area, where the storm has already passed through. It wasn't quite a blizzard here, as we didn't have a lot of wind, but it did drop a good 10 inches of snow on some of us.
