How come some people can see dead people or ghosts and others cannot?

Is there any truth to this?

I occasionally have individuals who have died visit me while I sleep and who seem to have messages they wish to pass on to loved ones. I frequently "dream" about my father, who died 18 months ago. He's apparently very active in the after life and my mom and now my 18 year old son ;have the same experiences. We all categorize those experiences not as dreams but as him coming to visit us. They are not dream-like at all but are vastly different from our normal dreams.

For myself, I view the universe and everything in it as energy of some kind. We are energy; when our physical bodies cease to function, those bodies die and decay. But the life energy that made us US continues. For some with a strong command of that energy, they can return to those of us still in our corporeal bodies and make themselves known. It's far easier to do this while we're asleep as our minds are far more accepting to what we tend to resist while awake. Our conscious thought can block out pretty much anything, but our sub-conscious is open while we're asleep.

There are people though who can allow, or who are rather bombarded, with those energies during their waking hours. They are an open portal through which those spirits can move, making contact or leaving messages. I think those people are open to those energies, or appear more "in tune" to those who have passed on.

As far as if there is any truth to this, it's a truth to me. But that does not mean it's a truth to someone else. Each of us only has our own experiences to draw from. My truth is not necessarily universal.

Or, you can just view those who claim they see ghosts as completely crazy and leave it at that ;)

Good question but there really is no good way to answer it. Except like stated above that some people are just more open (sensitive) to whatever frequency ghosts operate in. I will never forget the first spirit I saw and let my just say here and now that NO I didn't have any interest in doing so, never thought about it and had no desire to see one.

All I wanted was a glass of water, the last thing on earth I ever would have even thought about were ghosts. But there he stood right in front of me and till he floated away the only thing I thought was odd was that a strange man I had never met was in my house.

Over-active imagination? I think not. I think it's just an ability you have or you don't without rhyme or reason. Like the kid that just picks up a guitar at whatever age and begins playing. Some can, some can't.

I believe that the spirits of people who have died are around us, merely in a different dimension. Many people feel strange and unusual feelings and phenomena around them but don't know what to make of them. I can feel when there are these spirits around and I get messages from them too. I must say that I dont see them as others suppose this happens. I get an impression rather. This "talent " is available to us all it is simply that some people are more open to accepting those things that come without explanation. There are many who don't want to see them and other who have fear of the unknown blocking this vision.

Because I believe that these beings are there does not give me the right to force my opinions down someone else's throat and I appreciate it when other people do the same.

It is partly to do with the way people are raised. If you expect to see nothing you will be rather closed minded on the subject. People from other countries are much more open to the idea. Psychics and people that can see things have their senses more opened up. Their chakras are open. It depends on what someone wants to do. If you work on being psychic you can become more so. People also hide the idea because they don't want to be called nuts. It is not something that everyone talks about.

Actually if anyone does not usually see something were to see something, they will never be quiet about it. There are strange things in the world and the unexplained that are there. All of those things don't appear out of nowhere. But some things are also not what people may think they are.

Since there's no such thing as ghosts, I would say that #1 some people have more active imaginations than others, and #2 some people are more likely to interpret strange things they see as being ghosts, whereas others do not. Seeing something odd that we're not readily able to explain is not uncommon. Our eyes and other senses and the state of mind we're in causes this to happen at times. But a person who already believes in ghosts and is looking for ghosts, will interpret such strange visions as being ghosts. Another person however, will not, and will later discover a logical explanation for the so called ghost. It's all a matter of perspective.

There is now way to know if someone has seen a ghost or not. I personnally do not believe in ghosts, nor the ability to see dead people even exist. I know there are many paranormal shows on tv that put forth these abilities as truth, however I do not believe it as so. These abilities see to far fetched to me.

I think many people have so many questions about the after life. Then they imagine stories to come up with ways to rationalize what happens to us when we leave this earth such as ghosts. Then they pass this form of thinking as truths and form groups of people who accept this way of thinking.

It does seem that some people are more aware, and sensitive to ghosts and spirits than others.
Some can actually see them with regularity, it seems.
There are a lot of people who have seen loved ones who have passed away, and don't consider it a normal occurrence. It's especially interesting when it happens to people who don't believe in ghosts.
There are many people who explain away these experiences, but most often, they simply refuse to talk about them, because they don't want to be considered "crazy".
Thanks for our question.

Some people are much more sensitive to spirits then some, I know from personal experience that I am more sensitive then many people, but it is not like I see or hear spirits 24/7 but occasionally I do. Everyone is sensitive to some extent but many people refuse to believe that anything else might possibly exist except what can be reproduced scientifically. I believe I am lucky to be able to feel, see, or hear what I do and accept it as a small gift.

Hope it helps!

I do not get that channel on my television and refuse to pay money to see those shows at trhe theator. So I rarely see ghosts.
Although recently I did watch a dvd called Ghost town, that featured many dead people. Very entertaining, sort of a chick flick but I recommend it.
