Did any see a very bright 'star' in our sky?

6 Answers
I only call it a star because it glowed with abright light but it was very close. I do not think it was actually a star. This star was much closer than even the moon I think. I looked at it with my telescope. I have a fairly decent telescope and I was able to get a clear and focused look at the object. It appeared to be a brightly glowing perfectly cylindrical object surrounded by some sort of 'scaffolding' like structure that seemd to go around it. This scaffold, for lack of a better word, did not cover the surface of the object completely. It was very interesting and it hung low in the eastern sky, north western hemisphere. It showed up after sunset and did not move about the sky very much at all. It would stay about half the night then disappear before sunrise. My wife and I both got a good look at it. I checked on the youtube circuits, etc but found no other reference to it. Any body know what this could be?

It appears that on Aug 6 Saturn, Mars and another bright star could be seen. A Michigan couple saw five bright lights the same night. There is also a report of a bright light moving across the sky on Aug. 3rd. I found that on ufostalker.com

I know I have seen some pretty amazing lights in the sky myself but haven't done any looking for them. When I've gone out looking I have never seen anything to write home about. When I'm not looking is when strange things show up.

I am sorry there are no pics but my only ability to take pics is from a standard Canon digital camera and this does not have the zoom capabilities or the abilty to take anything like a meaningful photo of this 'thing'. My telescope is pretty good but an older model and I have no idea if I can even tie a camera into it or not. You don't need to believe me nor am i entertaining the argument that it is an 'alien craft' - I don't know what it is that's why I am asking.

The bright start might had been the space station. Sometimes when it?s a bit close to the earth you will see a very bright star, it is usually very close to the moon.
When there is a space launch of any space robber, you might be able to see bright hovering lights in the sky that look like bright stars.
I have not looked at the sky tonight, so I have not seen any bright stars. But I'm sure it might had been one of those. Perhaps you were treated to one of the wonders of space.

About 1 week ago. It was in the sky for three nights in a row, now it is gone, or was last two nights.

I live in a rural area with very little light polution so maybe city folks can't see it, or don't notice it as easily maybe?

It did not appear to shrink in perceived size, or change in size in any way, I think it would if it were accelerating away from where I was standing. It seemed to hover almost.

Strange...

I wonder if if your very bright star had anything to do with the Curiosity Mars Rover launch. I know there was a good bit of activity around that otherwise I have no idea what it could have been. I didn't see it though. When did you see it?

Hmmm...so, nobody got any pics? Gotta be some pics of this if it stayed for days, no? Hard to say what it might be...sounds just weird enough to pique the "aliens among us" curiosity, y'know? I'm just sayin'...
