What is the Atomic Mass of Iron?

The atomic mass of iron(Fe) is indeed 55.845 unified atomic mass units, however, there are different isotopes of all elements, including Iron. Although the amount of protons in the nucleus defines which element the atom is, the amount of neutrons define its isotope.

There are four naturally occurring isotopes of Iron, and I'll list them and their masses:
Iron-54, 53.9396127. Iron-56, 55.9349393. Iron-57, 56.9353958. Iron-58, 57.9332773.

You might notice that none of the isotopes I mentioned actually have an atomic mass of 55.845, and if you thought I know why, I don't. The closest guess that I can make is that 55.845 is the calculated average of all the isotopes found when the atomic mass of Iron was recorded.
