What are atoms made up of?
A

Atoms have been shown to have a dense, small nucleus and a larger surrounding cloud of electrons. The nucleus is made up of protons and neutrons and held together by the strong nuclear force. The nucleus is positively electrically charged, thanks to the charge on the protons, while the electrons are negatively charged. The force between the electrons and the nucleus is Coulomb's Law. The atom can be quantitatively described only by using quantum mechanics, since the atom is not a classical system due to its size. The protons and the neutrons are actually composed of smaller particles called quarks, but these are not necessary to explain the overall atom. Chemical properties of the atom are associated mainly with interactions between electrons of different atoms.

Atoms are made up of an extremely dense core of electrons surrounded by a cloud of electrons. Most of the area within the atom is empty. Compare the nucleus of an atom to half a grain of rice. Now place that half a grain of rice in the center of a large football stadium, if you were to stand at the top row of that stadium you would be the equivalent distance of an electron to the nucleus. The nucleus of the atom is made of of protons and neutrons, where the protons have a positive charge and the neutrons have a neutral charge. The electrons that surround the nucleus have a negative charge and fall in to certain orbitals of various shapes that surround the nucleus of the atom. These orbitals depend on the element in question.

At the moment. Our understanding is that they are made of a middle part (nucleus) with has neutrons and protons in it. Then there is lots of empty space. Then there is a layers ( electron shell) where there are smaller electrons. The amount of protons in an atom determines what element the atom is eg. 1 proton= hydrogen atom.

Atoms are the basic units of matter and they hey are made up of three particles: protons, electrons and neutrons .
The protons have a positive electrical charge, the neutrons are electrically neutral, while the electrons have a negative electrical charge

Atoms are comprised of Subatomic Particles (protons, neutrons, electrons). The Miriam Webster Dictionary defines an atom as "the smallest particle of a substance that can exist by itself or be combined with other atoms to form a molecule".

Atoms are made up of the nucleus which contains the positively charged particle( protons) and the Neutrons ( which have no charge) , surrounding the nucleus are the shells on which the electrons( negatively charged particles ) revolve .

Most chemistry classes will teach you that an atom is comprised of a nucleus which holds the protons and neutrons and electrons.

However you will learn that these parts are comprised of even smaller parts such as quirks
