When does zero population growth occur?Coverk20 - 6 Answers
Hopefully very soon because right now, with more than 7 billion people on the planet we are in bad shape.
A lot of people think the world is doing just fine and we can handle more people, but what they fail to see is the fact that we are relying on non-renewable resources. Also (and maybe even worse) is the fact that we are consuming renewable resources faster than they can be renewed. Eventually things will catch up with us and there will be massive problems, maybe things like war and famine.
Many intelligent people are aware of this and not having large families or in some cases are not having kids at all.
The United Nations once said that 5 billion is a sustainable population.
Anyhow, zero population growth occurs when a population is not creating more of its own kind than die off.
Two factors influence zero population growth.
When the fertility rate of the population falls to 2.1 per woman .2.1 is the minimum fertility rate required to keep a population from declining.
When the birth rate equals the death rate, the population stops growing.
These two are intertwined as one of them cannot give you reliable data on its own.
Russia has a low fertility rate of 1.5 but the population since 2010 has started to grow when the death rate has declined even though the birth rate hasn't grown much.
Somalia has a high birth rate of 7.However the high death rate due to high infant mortality and civil war has at times led to a stagnation in population growth and a lower population growth rate than say Uganda which has a lower fertility rate.
It means that. It means zero growth. So that there are two people that are needed to make a child. They could have two children to replace themselves. But anymore than that would mean growing the population. The ideal way to zero growth would be zero to one children. That is not to say that people should not have children. But the population is increasing with people not being able to handle it.
In reality and aside from math even with two children it is pretty impossible to gauge that. That is because the two children could go on to have six children each. If that was going on it ruins the idea. That is because it is up to human beings and chance and not just math.
The answer is the fertility replacement rate.
Two people have two children.
Those two children and their two mates have four children.
These 4 children and their 4 mates will have eight children
Even though it appears to be growing it is not as these 8 children have 8 grandparents who will eventually die.
Zero population growth occurs when the birth rate equals the death rate. Currently the birth rate is exceeding the death rate, so population rate is increasing....
