Google itself is not a number. A "googol," is, however, a number. As for the nomenclature of the company Google, it did, indeed, take its name from the word "googol." The infinitive form of the verb google is an eponymous verb -- it FOLLOWED the naming of the company. In other words, Google formed, its name inspired by "googol." Because people began using the term "to Google" something, that word became a verb. One never "googled" anything until the company came along and made the name (and search engine) a household word.
