You find the area of a rectangle by multiplying the length of the rectangle by its width. So if you have a rectangle, first you measure how long it is and multiply that number by how wide it is. The answer is always expressed by units square.

Say, for example, you have a rectangular room and you want to buy wall to wall carpeting for it. Because you want to cover the whole floor, you have to find out how many units are needed to cover it. If you are measuring the length of the floor in feet, you will measure the width of the room in feet, too. You multiply these two numbers together. If the floor is 12 feet long and 10 feet wide, you multiply 12ft X 10ft = 120 sq.ft (which is usually written as ft with a little 2 high up beside the "ft").

The area of a rectangle tells us how much flat space would be inside the rectangle if we were to divide it up into square units.

To find the area of a rectangle, we take the length of the rectangle and multiply it by the width of the rectangle. Then we would label the answer in square units. (A = l x w)

For example, if you have a rectangle that is 3 feet long and 2 feet wide, the area would be found by taking length (3 feet ) x width (2 feet) = 6 square feet.

The area of rectangle can be found by multiplying the base times the height.

For example:

If a rectangle has a base of length 6 inches and a height of 4 inches, its area is 6*4=24 square inches.

Multiply the length of the two unequal sides of the rectangle together. Make sure both lengths are in the same units (e.g. inches). Your answer will be in square units (e.g. square inches).

...The area of a rectangle is calculated using this formula; length x width. Thus multiplying the longer side(length) by the shorter side(width) to obtain the area of a rectangle.

...Suppose the length of side of rectangle is "l"

and breadth of the rectangle is " b "

then the area becomes " l*b "
