How do you feel about the Mermaids being discovered?Iamlat74 - 10 Answers
You know, I love science that uncovers evidence of things that exist that we never thought might, but while the myths are what I would call, fun, I think that's just what they are - fun myths (or living prehistoric creatures).
That's not to say that maybe mermaids didn't existed during the evolution of the earth and life before the present day, however, with today's technology moving at such a rapid rate, I find it hard to believe that we still don't have a "specimen" of at least one of the mythical creatures still supposedly inhabiting the earth. There have been many sitings of all these creatures and always terrible footage (if we're lucky) to accompany the stories; nothing solid, nothing really convincing or global headline news worthy.
So to answer your question, until the president himself issues a statement regarding an actual discovery that is examined here on U.S. soil with full media attention and press, I'll have to just continue to watch and enjoy all the speculations, probable theories and unofficial discoveries of mermaids. As I mentioned before, the shows are entertaining.
I watched the Animal Planet show on Mermaids and was fascinated. There were enough facts in the segment to certainly make one wonder.
It is a fact that in 1997, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration recorded a startling sound in the Pacific Ocean, thought to be organic in nature and never identified.
The video presented on "Mermaids" which shows a beached mermaid and also two scientists in a mini-sub who were startled by a webbed hand up against the window - those shots did not look very convincing. Even if one did consider them realistic, almost anything can be faked on film today with all the sophisticated equipment and special effects available.
Frankly, if there were mermaids, I hope they're never found because someone would want to kill them, experiment on them or mount their head on a wall.
Do I think this story is possible? Considering that about 1.5 million species have been identified on the earth while scientists claim there are at least 7 million we have not yet identified, yes I think it's entirely possible.
Isn't a mermaid a person, but with a fin instead of legs? I don't think there can be any of those living in the ocean. If they had the same structure as a human, then they would not be able to breathe under water. I think if there are mermaid it will look a lot like the one from The Cabin in the Woods.
There are videos and stuff, but you can't trust those. I didn't realize that so much of the ocean is still a mystery. There are probably some strange things out there, but no one is probably gonna find Ariel anywhere. The videos are always gonna have questions about them.
That would be interesting though. I just don't think it can happen in our world. Maybe in a different place. I think a lot of people would be disappointed with a real mermaid. But, it would still be cool to find a being in the ocean that is as smart as a dolphin.
As an open minded person i think it is very possible. I hear that there are thousands if not millions of live life forms on earth, and from what i understand only a fraction of these lifeforms have been discovered. How science has figured this is complex.
In addition i remember seeing a very short YouTube video a couple of years ago of a crew on a fishing boat pulling up their net, and when they got their net on board it was obvious that they had a strange creature that resembled a mermaid.
They then quickly dropped the net back into the water because it scared the net operator, and also the creature was throwing such a fuss. I'm not sure if that's the video that your referring to, but it's the most authentic one that i have seen Iamlat74 i could tell that they were not acting.
I saw a portion of the Animal Planet videos that appear to document mermaid finds. There is a sea animal that is somewhat shaped like a seal, but not, that can fit some mythological definitions of a mermaid.
I am simply not sure what to believe. As is often found, our fun long-ago fictional stories are often based in facts. Since we only know perhaps 10% of the life-forms living in the ocean, I cannot rule out the possibility that real mermaids might exist.
It will be interesting to see what happens next with the mermaid finds. If this turns out to be an unknown sea species, it might just get the name of mermaid, even if it varies away from our exciting fantasy stories and into a duller form of sea creature.

I always believe in the 'possibility' of anything really. From ghost, reincarnation, mermaid ,witches, vampire, heck you can even throw in unicorn. That's why whenever there's some 'discovery' of 'that thing' actually exists, I am never so baffled by it that I go 'WOW' mainly because I open to the possibility that they do exist. So I'd just be' Hey I thought it's possible they exist'. If they don't, I also don't get butt hurt about it. It doesn't affect me either way is what I am trying to say. If they exist, great. If they don't, okay. It's not going to change my view or opinion since I basically am neutral....
I personally find it pretty unlikely that this will come to anything. With the current state of technology, it is very, very easy to create convincing footage. I wouldn't be surprised if this was some viral marketing attempt for an upcoming movie.
I can recall many times in which we were "waiting for a specimen", whether it was Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or even an alien. My guess is that nothing else will come of this.
However, it would be damn cool if it turned out to be real. It would be the biggest scientific discovery in recent history, that's for sure.
I don't think mermaids could possibly exists. Half woman and half fish. It does not make any sense and it is too much like the half horse half man creatures. Someone sees a man on a horse for the first time and thinks they see a half man half horse creature. A lot of mythical creatures are fantasy or mistaken identity. Some originated from statues people made.
In my opinion some people saw women swimming with dolphins or fish, or sailors that were away from women for too long were imagining beautiful women.
Nobody has discovered any yet.
All you see is some video, any of which can be easily faked. A taxidermist in Florida even produced a fake mermaid and videotaped it and put the video on utube. He later sold it for $1,500.00. Even the federal government came out and issued a statement denying the existence of mermaids.
Don't hold your breath.
I feel like it isn't true....
