What do you think Deja Vu is?

"Déja vu" is an everyday Redoul27 term for "seen before" EG: of a film, "Oui, j'ai la déja vu" -translation - "Yes, I've seen it before".

In psychology the term "déja vu" refers to the feeling of having already seen something, or already have been in a situation combined with an emotional sensation of unreality and strangeness. Sometimes it can be an unpleasant and disturbing experience.

Apparently 7 out of 10 people experience déja vu - some more frequently than others. A Swiss psychologist, Arthur Funkhouser, defined 3 types of déja vu : "already experienced", "already felt" and "already visited".

This term was first used in 1876 by Emile Boirac (1851-1917) in her book "The Future of Psychic Science".

Deja vu is the feeling of experiencing something that you're presently experiencing, sometime in the past. A person who experiences Deja vu feels that he has experienced the present moment in an exact way at some point in the past. I think Deja vu is a phenomenon which is purely psychological. I believe that people who look for a Deja vu will find it. Until a person is made aware of a concept of Deja vu, he tends to ignore events from this perspective. However, after he's made aware of Deja vu, and if he is intrigued, he tends to associate any similar event occurring in his life to an occurrence of Deja vu.

There are many moments in our life which, by coincidence may occur again in a slightly similar fashion. An example of this could be a person standing spilling a drink while standing in the same position, at the same place. It's very possible that the person prefers standing at that place and in that position. Thus, if at any time he spills his drink, it would be an occurrence of the same event again. However, in reality its just that the probability of the recurrence is high due to circumstance. Hence, I believe that Deja vu is a purely psychological phenomenon. There are strange situations in our life when events which do not have a significant probability of recurring may actually recur. However, these get mixed in with other events where our mind wants to believe that it is experiencing Deja vu. Hence, I would say that in most of the situations it is purely psychological.

I'm way outside of Ronny's 15-25 group, and I have deja vu quite often. I actually enjoy it.

To me it's like being two seconds ahead of whatever is going on and knowing the outcome. I consciously try to pay attention to what's happening, besides just recognizing it's deja vu, and actively look for reasons why I feel it, what I feel will happen next and if I can change the feeling by either changing my actions or thinking of something else.

The episodes last all too briefly and I am usually a little let down when they end.

Deja Vu is a feeling that comes over an individual making him or her feel like they have already experienced something before i.e. it feels like they have gone through the exact same situation before. Imagine someone walking in their front door to see their husband walking toward them to greet them. The person entering the door has an instantaneous feeling like they have experienced it all before. Them opening the door and their husband walking toward them.

Deja Vu means "Already seen or experienced". It is a Redoul27 phrase. Deja Vu didn't make "us" different from animals. Deja Vu is a phenomenon. People between 15 to 25 have Deja Vu mostly. Scientists have not figured it out completely.

For example: You are going to a new place where you have never visited. But when you reach there, you feel that you have already been there. This a Deja Vu.

The current thinking is that one part of the brain takes a snapshot of the scene in front of the observer. This would be of advantage for survival purposes to identify any threats in the environment. Another section of the brain receives a more detailed image a fraction of a second later. This sometimes creates the impression that a scene has been viewed before.

Deja vu is an event where someone was sure to have experienced a new situation previously. During experiencing a new situation, someone feels something in common with anything experienced in the past. Someone feels have gone through the same thing just happened in the past or have seen it in his/her dreams. That is de javu according my point of view.

That comment about the animals was just a joke. Basically animals do the same thing over and over no matter what. They are always happy, and because of the communication barrier they could know the secrets of the universe and we would not even know it. Perhaps the joke is very deep and I did not write it as a proper joke.

I once heard a man tell me that it was Deja Vu that made "us" different from the animals. Meaning that they live in a perpetual state of Deja Vu. Go figure that out.
