Mt. Everest, also known as Mt. Chomolungma, is the highest mountain peak in the world above sea level. Located in the Himalayan Mountains near the China and Nepal border, Mt. Everest towers 29,029 feet above sea level.

If you take into consideration mountains located underwater then Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano in Hawaii, is the world's tallest peak. As a whole, Mauna Kea is 33,000 feet tall. The portion of the volcano that is located above water is 13,796 feet tall.
