Since the time parameters of the question are not defined it is best to approach the answer to the question considering time as a factor.

Initially when cold water is added to hot water the two volumes of water will achieve what is known as thermal equilibrium. That is depending on the volume and temperature of each amount of cold and hot water the temperature of the mixture will be somewhere between the original temperature of the cold water and hot water.

On a molecular level, the hot water will rise to the upper portion of the container while the cold water will settle to the bottom of the container. As the hot water transfers heat to the colder layer, the colder layer warms up. This causes the molecules in the container to move about until the mixture reaches thermal equilibrium.

Additionally, the temperature outside the container must be considered. For example if the temperature outside the container is near freezing, the mixture, over a period of time will reach near freezing temperature ? again the mixture will reach thermal equilibrium with the environment outside the container.

There will be some initial mixing but then the hot water will rise to the top of the mixture. As it cools, it will sink and cooler water will replace it. Thermal currents will be set up in the water and eventually all the water will be at an almost uniform temperature.
You can color the hot water with one color and the cold water with another color dye to see the effects of mixing the two together.

Hot water is acidic in nature and cold water is alkaline in nature.
If both are mixed in the same proportion, it will be normal mixture of hot and cold water.
Or there will be no hot sense or no cold sense in the water.

Once they are mixed (water equilibrates and it's temperature becomes equal) you end up with warm water.
