Are ostriches suicidal?

Despite the reference to the suicidal ostrich in the movie ?Prince of Persia?, ostriches aren?t suicidal. There is also a myth that ostriches stick their heads into the sand when danger threatens, leaving the rest of their body exposed, but that?s not true either. Instead, when an ostrich is frightened, it may lie still with its whole body flat on the ground. The head and neck have a light color and tend to blend in with the color of sand or light-colored soil, while the dark body may look like a bush to an enemy. A human viewing the scene from a distance might think that the ostrich had put its head into the sand. Ostriches can also run fast when danger threatens and have a powerful kick.

Do ostriches commit suicide? Well no is really the answer. In history, there is no recorded history of an ostrich every attempting to take its own life. However, in 1899, a zookeeper in Chicago reported that an ostrich had escaped from the zoo and needed to be found quickly as it was help bent on suicide.

In actual fact, we humans are the only ones who actually commit suicide, probably due to the fact that we humans are the only ones who actually think outside moment. As we humans are the only one who thinks outside the present moment, stuck in our own minds, we often see small challenges as overwhelming, often driving one in the end to the point of suicide.

I dont have an answer for this but I really think this may be the strangest/ funniest question I have came across on here. But for the fun of it I'll say yes, they are very suicidal, all zoo's must have a 24 hr' suicide watch set up for their ostriches, with a full supply of anti-depressants on hand.

Ostiches are generally depressed all the time. If you looked like that and had to eat bugs and be gawked at you would too. I saw one ostrich try to hang itself in a fence once and it took alot of help and counselling (for me later) to get him back on his claws.

I would say that Ostriches, along with most animals, are unintentionally suicidal, seeing as how they are eating things and getting into places that most humans would realize are extremely dangerous and stupid.
