Is the moon a planet?

The moon is not a planet. At least, according to NASA and the majority of scientific thought in the present century. The man in the moon, the rabbit, or whoever covered it with green cheese (probably the same ones who wanted to know the meaning of life, the universe, and everything) might have different ideas.

The moon is classified as a planetary satellite, meaning it's a body of matter that orbits another body of matter that managed to get itself called a 'planet'. In layman's terms, a planetary satellite is called, you got it, a 'moon'. That means our moon is The Moon. Am I making sense yet? In other words, the scientists have a put together a list of qualifications that can get a moon labeled a planet. The easiest of course, is that a moon orbits a planet, but a planet orbits a sun. If a sun orbits anything, I haven't heard of it yet.

The moon is not a planet, but a satellite body that is trapped in our gravitational pull for it to orbit the earth. In reality, scientist believe that the moon was part of the earth many millenniums ago and due to some collision with something was broken off from the earth. Good proof of this is that the moon has the same type of rocks the earth hosts. I've seen some of the moon rocks in the lab being tested. The funny thing about all of this is that the scientist had to scramble to understand the earth rocks better to be able to compare the two.

The moon does orbit the sun; but it does so indirectly. It orbits the earth as earth orbits the sun. Moons orbit planets that orbit their parent star (eg. the sun). The sun is itself in orbit around the centre of the milky way galaxy. The milky way moves through the universe under the influence of the gravitational pull of countless other galaxies. I wonder if the universe itself moves?

No, the moon is not a planet, it is a satellite. A satellite refers to anything that moves in an orbit in space. The earth is a satellite of the sun and the moon is a satellite of the earth. This is because the moon orbits the earth. It is the earth's natural satellite.

No the moon is not a planet. It is a satellite. Satellites are bodies that orbit a planet. We have natural satellites and artificial satellites, and the moon is a natural satellite. It is the earth's satellite.

A moon orbits a planet. Many of the planets in our solar system have them, and new ones are being discovered all the time. The Earth just has one.
