If you ask "Where did the universe come from?" and receive the answer "God made the universe.", this prompts the obvious question "What made God?". Believers in God will usually answer that God has always existed, but this is inconsistent: why not just say that
the universe has always existed? If it makes sense to believe that something must have made the universe, as opposed to believing that it has always existed (in some form), then it makes equal sense to believe that something must have made the "something" which made the universe, and so on.

Of course there is a way out of this, which is to believe that God IS the universe, but this is just redefining the terms rather than answering the question. The universe lacks the attributes of a God as defined in any of the world's religions; it just goes on evolving
without regard to human affairs. A proper God would have to be something external to our universe.

Another argument in favour of God is that our universe may be a simulation running on some vast computer in the "real" universe, and that the creator of this simulation is God, in that he/she/it/they created our universe. We cannot, in fact, ever prove that we are NOT living in such a simulation. The problem is neither can the creator. The creator of our simulated universe might 'himself' be living in a simulated universe, created by some being at a still higher level, and so on.You can argue that this chain of nested simulations must end
somewhere, with the grand-daddy of all creators, but even he/she/it/they cannot PROVE they are not living in a simulation, even though they aren't. So "God" cannot prove that he is God!

The short answer would be "No."

Does God exist? It depends upon what you specifically mean by "God." Since you used the singular and not the plural, odds are that you're referring to the monotheistic God of the Jews, Christians and Muslims. So I'll proceed from there.

It seems certain that he does not exist. There are a number of excellent reasons for not believing, but to put it as simply as possible, the compelling and convincing evidence just isn't there. People have been examining the supposed existence of Yaweh/Allah for more than two millenia, including some of the greatest minds humanity has to offer. Yet among all the logical, philosophical and "scientific" arguments offered for his existence, none of them hold up to even the most casual scrutiny. These people were presumably the agents of God, speaking on his behalf, and this is the best they can do?

The arguments for and against are all out there, ready to be examined by anyone with an open and objective mind. Yet for so many people who are rational, logical and even scientific in their approach to any other question, this is the one area that is compartmentalized and treated entirely differently. The cultural and emotional barriers to an honest examination of this issue are simply just too much to overcome. For many believers, it's a question that can't even be CONSIDERED, other than in the context of something that needs to be refuted, and that's not only counterproductive, it's sad.

A no win question really alls i can add is if there was a god who created the universe and the earth for us, then this also means god gave us all our attributes good and bad, love and hate, plus the abillity to choose which attribute to follow. this means free will and if this is true then god wouldnt interfere in any way as it would remove our free will.so we can never know while here in these biological vehicles.lol. on the scale of the cosmos, universe we are significantly insignificant yet the truly amazing posession of humanity is the abillity to ask these questions, communicate and learn hopefully ,in time, we will evolve and learn enough to be better people. gotta b honest people, if u asked someone if they needed help with heavy groceries nowadays the majority wud refuse out of fear of being a victim of crime. though hope is another amazing attribute. i hope our energy transforms into something that keeps contributing and never ending . if thats to decay and enrich the earths soil so food can keep growing for our yet un known future selves, so b it.. w,widow answer.

My understanding is that Stephen Hawking believes in an infinite number of parallel universes existing in an infinitely large so called multiverse. Each of these universes has it's own set of physical laws. The universe we are stuck in is simply, by pure chance, perfect for the evolution of life on rocky, watery planets orbiting long- lived dwarf stars like the sun. Many other of the parallel universes with their different physics could be barren and devoid of the right kind of stars and planets. They would be lifeless and purposeless. Let's suppose for one moment Hawking is correct. It still leaves the little problem of what caused his multiverse and why we seek after answers to everything.Would we seek after God if there was no God? I don't believe so.

I saw this man on TV yesterday and i can see why he wouldn't believe in god he sure doesn't have a reason to believe in god if he only new the comfort he would find in gods care he might feel different,he did at one time believe in the possibility of god, how someone of his intelligence can believe we were created from a primordial soup astounds me,its hard to see a human in his condition and even try to imagine the pain, mental and physical he must have suffered i will certainly say a prayer for him its so sad to see him.

Mr.Hawking and his mind are over rated. I think that because of his condition people are sympathetic to his "opinions" and treat him with kid gloves. He may be brilliant but he should not be considered the be all and end all of answers to questions about the universe.
Case in point:; Al Gore. Just because he's mentally challenged people believe his and his handful of government funded quazi-scientists about the so called global warming BS. What makes a third rate political hack an expert on this subject?

For Stephen Hawking, a god does not exist. For you, it might. A take on the existence of a god and an afterlife is an entirely personal exploration and decision. There is no definitive proof outside of faith what happens beyond death. We can truly only wonder about this. If you believe it to be so, then that defines your truth. Another person may feel differently.

It doesn't matter if "god" "exists" or not. You're here and I'm here. And we're discussing whether "god" "exists" or not. Do you breathe the air? Do you think your thoughts? Do you feel your feelings?

If you would ask me most astronomers believe in the beginning there was the big bang, i the bible it says that got created light intently. however the big bang theory also says that there are multiple universes so that theory is not all true.

God really exist.
ma proof is that ACCORDING TO Newton's statement "TO EVERY FORCE THERE IS AN EQUALL BUT OPPOSITE REACTION" IF WHAT U BELEIVE IN IS EVIL THEN THERE IS GOOD This good is from THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR.

Yes God exist and God created universe. Just like it is unimaginable to find a computer on mars without a human being to bring it there, likewise it is not possible that the perfect universe came about all by itself.

It is Obvious that God exist. If not then who sent you in this world?who crated all these things surrounding you?look at the creatures, enlarge the vision ,you will also believe that GOD surely exists.

I'm an atheist. I can see this all happening by chance, the good and the bad that make up our every day lives. But, each to his or her own, of course. If god is your thing, more power to you.

Does stephen think he created it, he will meet his maker and have no more
theories, yes i believe in go,jesus,we all need to kook around outside
and that should answer our question.

Stephen is always right as Einstein is always right too. More important than does GOD exists is that you exist right now and better do something useful with your life.

...
C

I don't think there is really an answer for this. It all comes down to your personal belief system. There really is no clear way to prove either side wrong.

God live in each part of universe and What ever we saw its all because of God. So God created everything and Also God managing everything.
