No, cell phones do not work in space. That is because cell phones depend on the range of the radio signals that can be sent from the satellite orbiting the earth. Till now, the satellites used for cell phone communication send radio signals only on all regions on the earth. Therefore cell phones only work on earth.

To make a satellite send radio signals in space would be a huge task, because the space is so vast and sending radio signals to all regions in space is nearly impossible. It is only possible to send radio signals to a particular region till a particular distance in space, and this is how the space crafts communicate with earth. Regular mobile phones can not work in space.

Hello, It doesn't work in space. Because , if cell phones wants to work it needs signals from certain range. So its impossible.

For example, if you stay in USA and if you goto CANADA with same cell phone then you will notice that your service provided will be on roaming ie, you will get CANADIAN service provider.

So this means that the actual service provider does not cover for you there instead some other local network catches up.

The conclusion is that if there were any cell phone service providers happen to be on space then it may have some chances but now its not happening. Hope you got it.

There is no special reason that cellphones don't work in space, except that the distances are much greater. The cell phone signal is passed from tower to tower. They don't use satellites, except satellite phones. Those phones would not work because the satellite signal if pointed down, not out in space.

If SP - Service Providers offers roaming in space haha :) seriously it will not work, the distance is so far,the network signal couldn't reach it.

Regular cell phones must be in range of a cell phone tower in order to work. So now, your average cell phone would not work in space.

No, in space they are no longer in contact with a cell tower and thuse would not have anything to communicate with.
