What should I tell him to expect on his first day inside? I wanna help him be prepared, but I’ve never been through this myself

Tell him to keep his head down, be respectful, and don’t try to act tough or overly friendly. First day is mostly processing, getting assigned housing, and figuring out the unwritten rules. Listen more than he talks.
Biggest advice most guys will give: mind your own business, don’t get into debt, and treat people with basic respect. If he does that, he’ll avoid most problems.

Tell him this: keep his mouth shut, eyes open, and don’t try to act tough. First day ain’t about proving anything – it’s about learning the temperature of the room. Respect’s everything. Don’t sit on someone’s bunk, don’t reach over anyone’s tray, and don’t stare too long at nobody. It’s not like TV, but it ain’t a game either. He don’t gotta join no crew, but he better not act like he’s above anybody either. Stay neutral, move smart, and stick to his routine. He’ll figure it out. Just remind him – first impressions matter inside more than out here
